Ah, the good ol’ PSX days! My first console that I remember everyone wanted modded. While I didnt have the money to mod my Playstation I managed to grab a copy of THPS2. Back when blocky polygons were the height of realism and the soundtracks were jam-packed with punk rock anthems. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 was a staple for many, blending incredible gameplay with a killer soundtrack. Let’s do an ollie into the past, shall we?
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 Story
Imagine this: The year is 2000. The world is just getting used to the idea of the Y2K bug being a no-show, I still had bleached hair and then bam! out comes Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, taking the world by storm. It wasn’t just a game; it was an experience. It was band practice, smoking cigarettes, and playing THPS2 for me almost religiously. Ah, my teen years, lol. From trying to beat your high score to perfecting that combo, there was never a dull moment. And if we’re reminiscing, there’s nothing quite like having to blow the dust off the old PSX and tap the disc drive to get it to work, right?
THPS 2 Levels
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 did one thing not many of us thought possible and expand upon the first game in ways we couldnt have imagined. A tonne of new levels, each having its unique flavor and challenges:
- Hangar: A basic start, but remember the wind tunnel? Epic.
- School II: Oh, boy. Those damn bells. I still remember the frustration, especially that one on the corner of the triangle grind. What a pain in my arse.
- Marseille: That secret bowl was the stuff of legends.
- New York City: Taxi cabs and rooftop gaps, the Big Apple never felt so skatable.
- Venice Beach: Sun, sea, and… skateboarding!
- Skatestreet: Perfect for those who loved vert ramps.
- Philadelphia: Who could forget the epic Liberty Bell grind?
- Bullring: A wild ride with a Mexican twist.
- Chopper Drop and Skate Heaven: The secret levels that were the icing on the cake.
The biggest addition I loved more than the level design was the soundtrack which featured bands I loved such as Rage Against The Machine, Lagwagon, Millencollin, Swingin Udders, Bad Religion possibly the best sound track of all time.
THPS 2 Cheats
Alright, so its no secret we like to share some cheats. I’ve been known to throw on the perfect balance cheat from time to time (insane combos). The games got a metric tonne of cheats some funny and weird ones:

Glitches & Bugs: Tony Hawk Has Issues
I put so many hours into THPS2 it’s fair to say that I found my share of quirks. Those random wall bounces? Yeah, they’d kick you off a grind for no reason. I mean, why? It makes no sense. And the glitches where you’d fall through the floor? Maddening, but also kind of hilarious. Still, for all its imperfections, it was a masterpiece of its time.
Screen Glitch
This one comes as no suprise to anyone who played THPS2 there is this glitch where the camera will zoom out from an angle and get stuck in the wrong orientation. Annoying to say the least especially when you don’t have that perfect balance cheat on.
Demo Game Break
When I first played THPS2 it was actually on a demo disc from the Official Playstation Magazine. I think Pizza Hut had a demo as well anyway, upon getting a highscore with cheats enabled the score would glitch out showing square blocks rather than numbers. When the time ran out the screen and character would glitch out and the game would lock up. Essentially breaking the game.
